Sheryl Marshall

Bible Institute Teacher

The Bennett Cortez Sr. Bible Institute was founded in 2018 to equip believers and serve the community through affordable, Christ-centered biblical education. Named in honor of Pastor Bennett Cortez Sr., the Institute is committed to developing disciples, ministry leaders, and lifelong learners through practical and transformational study.
Our courses include Bible Study Methods, Theology, Foundations of the Spiritual Life, and Faith & Film Studies, providing students with the tools to understand Scripture, strengthen their faith, and effectively serve in ministry. Whether you are new to the faith or seeking deeper spiritual growth, the Bennett Cortez Sr. Bible Institute offers a welcoming environment where knowledge, discipleship, and spiritual formation come together.…be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (I Corinthians 15:58)

ABOUT OUR TEACHER/FACILITATOR
A native Houstonian, Sheryl was educated in Houston schools, graduating from the M.C. Williams Junior-Senior High School in 1971. She pursued the next level of education at the University of Pittsburgh and obtained dual degrees (Bachelor of Arts) in Speech Communication and Black Studies. Considered a lifelong learner, she studied at Texas Southern University and the University of St. Thomas as a post-grad.

The mother of one son, Sheryl, built her career at a major oil and gas corporation as a Customer Service and Collections Representative, an Accounting Assistant, and a Human Resources Recruiting Assistant before becoming a Senior Administrative Assistant in their Global Occupational Medicine Department. She retired with over 40 years of service.

Present at the Organizational and Chartering Meeting of the Greater Faith Baptist Church, Sheryl did not sign the Charter along with the rest of her family. She did continue to attend services and support the growth of the infant church. However, in June 1979, she formalized her membership three months after her father's death. In 1980, while attending a Women’s Conference at Greater St. Matthews Church, she encountered a Prophetess who prayed for her and then whispered in her ear that she would “teach the Word of God.”

As the years have passed, she has fulfilled the prophecy/promise and has facilitated Church education through;
• Sunday School
• Women’s Mission
• Women’s Ministry
• Weekly Bible Study
• Vacation Bible School
• Bennett J. Cortez Bible Institute
Additionally, she assists Pastor Cortez with administrative tasks for the Institute.

We must pass along God’s truth to others. Sheryl believes that if we Learn The Word, we can come to Love The Word, and if we Love The Word, it will be easy for us to Live The Word.
