How it all started...
Greater Faith Baptist Church was organized in Houston, Texas on June 26, 1976. Largely due to the efforts; leadership and guidance of the late Rev. Bennett J. Cortez, Sr. Among the first officers of the new organization, were Bro. Q.T. Marshall, Chairman of Deacon Board, Bro. Grady J. Moore, Trustee, and Sis. Veola Smith, President of Choir, Sis. Laura Jackson-Morehead, Chairman of Usher Board, and Sis. Mozelle Pujo, Church Mother. From 1976 – 1978 the congregation met at the Wright Grove Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. In June 1978, the church purchased land located at 9235 W. Montgomery Rd., Houston, Texas. After purchasing an old rectory from St. Anthony Parish and moving it onto the new property, the congregation relocated to its new facility. The Articles of Incorporation were filed on February 11, 1985.

Expanding the vision...
In 1998, a new single-story worship facility was constructed next to the existing building that contains 5,000 square feet of floor and space and provides for approximately 300 in worship. The church property consists of approximately 92,000 square feet of land or 2.112 acres. Since moving into the new sanctuary, many souls have been touched, and God has blessed all of our endeavors. Under Pastor Cortez’ leadership, we have stood on his teaching of love. After an extended illness, on June 10, 2009, the Lord called our late Pastor Bennett J. Cortez from labor to reward.
Where we are headed...
On November 1, 2009, the Board Members of Greater Faith Baptist Church elected Pastor Bennett T. Cortez as Jr. Pastor, Pastor Eric Cortez as Co-Pastor. The years to come will be years of elevation for our Church and will lead to more souls being saved.
